The team from the Windy City has locked up some organizational depth upfront for another season.

On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks announced they have re-signed forward Brett Seney to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024-25 season. The contract carries a $775,000 cap hit.

Seney is coming off another one-year, two-way contract, which was also for a league minimum of $775,000, $500,000 of which was guaranteed.

As a result of the signing, the Blackhawks have 28 standard player contracts signed for next season. According to CapFriendly, the team has just over $33 million in projected cap space.

The 28-year-old just played his second season with the Blackhawks organization after signing a one-year deal in July 2022. After scoring a goal in seven games during the 2022-23 campaign, Seney played just four games this past year, last playing in the NHL on Jan. 7 against the Calgary Flames.

Seney has spent most of his time with Chiscago’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. He scored 54 points in 59 games last season and only got better during the 2023-24 season. The London, Ontario native led the IceHogs by scoring a career-high 63 points in 68 games, tied for eighth in the AHL in scoring, helping Rockford finish third in the Central Division.

Seney first entered the NHL stratosphere after being taken by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He broke into the league during the 2018-19 season, playing 15 games with the Devils and scoring five goals and 13 points. The former Merrimack standout has played sparingly in the league ever since. In 66 career games, which also saw a cup of coffee with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Seney has scored six goals and 14 points.

In 318 AHL games, he has posted 93 goals and 164 assists, including three points in nine Calder Cup Playoff appearances.
