Jamal Adams a possible addition to Ravens’ loaded roster

The Baltimore Ravens are making a move that will put them closer to adding someone who used to be one of the better defensive players in the NFL.

“Former Seahawks Pro-Bowl safety Jamal Adams is visiting today with the Baltimore Ravens,” Adam Schefter of ESPN posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning.

The Ravens don’t have much depth in the safety position at the moment. Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams are atop the position’s pecking order on Baltimore’s stop unit but there are questions about whether there’s enough experience and stability behind the two projected 2024 starters.

Adams could potentially provide some of that for the Ravens, who had the best scoring defense in the NFL back in the 2023 season when Baltimore gave up just an average of 16.2 points per game. They were also sixth overall in the league with only 193.1 passing yards surrendered per contest, though, teams didn’t challenge Baltimore’s pass defense as much as they did versus the others.

Adams spent his first four seasons in the league playing for the New York Jets, who selected him sixth overall in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In just his second year, Adams got his first Pro Bowl nod and in his third year in the pros, he got both a Pro Bowl and First-Team selections. In 20202, the Jets sent him to the Seattle Seahawks together with a 2022 fourth-round pick for “Bradley McDougald, a 2022 1st round pick (#10 Garrett Wilson), 2021 1st round pick (#23 – traded) and 2021 3rd round pick (#86 – traded),” per Spotrac.

After getting acquired by the Seahawks, Adams promised to give it his all in helping Seattle win a Super Bowl.

“You have a man on a mission, a man all in on winning a Super Bowl, being the best leader & teammate he can be, & a man who will give everything he has to the city of Seattle and to the 12s all across the world. Thank you for believing in me!” Adams posted on Twitter (now X) at that time.

Adams showed up right away for the Seahawks, earning his third Pro Bowl in 2020.

However, he is coming off a poor 2023 campaign in which he only appeared in nine games and received just a 54.9 overall Pro Football Focus grade.

So far in his NFL career, Adams has collected 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, four interceptions, and 494 total tackles.

Fans react to Adams’ potential of joining the Ravens

The news of the Ravens testing the water with Adams has garnered mixed reactions from fans online.

“Honestly would be cool to see Baltimore revive his career as a Big Nickle / Subpackage guy.”

“No please don’t go to the Ravens lol”

“Ravens too smart of an organization to add this headache to the team”

“He’s washed.”

“Ravens going to be dangerous”

“Like this a lot for a vet as long as he checks off the field. On the field screams Raven.”

“Interesting development! Jamal Adams could be a great addition to the Ravens’ defense.”

“Is Adams really ‘visiting’ the Ravens, or is this just a smokescreen to distract from something bigger going on behind the scenes?”

“He makes too many ‘business decisions’ and struts like a peacock on the simple plays he does manage to make. Not a good add.”

“Wow, that’s interesting. Ravens could definitely use some help in their secondary. Hope he stays healthy and makes an impact.”
