After two seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats, Washington opted to forego his remaining years of college eligibility by officially declaring for the 2019 NBA Draft. On draft night, the Charlotte Hornets selected Washington in the first round with the 12th overall pick.

Shortly after, Washington signed a four-year rookie deal worth around $18 million with the Hornets, according to Spotrac. In his rookie season, Washington averaged 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the field overall.

Despite just signing a contract extension with the Hornets, the team traded him to the Dallas Mavericks along with a pair of second-round draft picks in return for Seth Curry, Grant Williams, and a first-round draft pick. In a Mavericks uniform, Washington registered 11.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while making 42 percent of his shots in 29 games.

Washington is an important piece for the Mavericks, who are currently preparing for the Western Conference finals. The former Kentucky standout is averaging 14.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while hitting 45 percent from the field and 41 percent beyond the arc.

Washington and the Mavericks successfully dispatched the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round, winning the series in six games. They then knocked off the Western Conference top seed Oklahoma City Thunder in six games.

Washington made two free throws with two seconds left in the game to give the Mavericks a 117-116 win in an epic Game 6 to win the series and prevent the series from going back to Oklahoma City for Game 7.
