Watch: Phillies' Bryce Harper helps high school student with promposal

Bryce Harper has been bringing joy to Philadelphia Phillies fans for more than five years now, but the memorable moment he created for a pair of high schoolers this week will be tough to top.

A video went viral on Monday showing Harper helping a New Jersey high school student ask a classmate to the prom. Haddonfield Memorial High School senior Jake Portello told FOX29’s “The Phantastic Sports Show” that he knocked on Harper’s door on Monday to ask for assistance.

“I knocked on his door. He seemed cool with it at first. Then he was like, ‘Can I get your email so we can plan this out?’ And as I was leaving he was like, ‘Why don’t we do this right now?” Portello said.

Fortunately, the starstruck young lady, Guilia, said yes. The moment was captured on video and viewed over 1 million times as of Tuesday.

Portello said he did not expect Harper to come to the door, let alone fulfill the request.

“I wasn’t expecting this, I thought it’d be something cool among my friends and people in my town and stuff,” Portello explained. “I didn’t even expect him to open the door in the first place.”

Harper has always been one to show appreciation for fans, but his assist to Portello is some of his best work. That story will last a lifetime for the two high schoolers.
